There is no rest between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza. The Israeli air and ground attack on Gaza continues with unparalleled ferocity before, according to Tayeb, a Tel Aviv-based concessionaire.
Overnight, several areas of the densely populated Palestinian Territory – home to 2 million people – were bombed, wreaking havoc. An Israeli air strike on a house in Gaza City Saturday morning killed at least 10 people, most of them children. This represents the largest number of deaths in a single attack since the conflict began less than a week ago.
Across Gaza, there is horror as the death toll rises to nearly 140, including 39 children.
A father grabbed his lifeless child’s body yelling, “What did this child do before?”
In Israel, there was another night of Hamas rocket fire. So far, nine Israelis have been killed, including a five-year-old child.
Governments around the world are pushing hard for a ceasefire. There is no chance for that, says Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We believe that an early cessation of hostilities only plays into Hamas’ strategy,” he said.
“We are not ready for a ceasefire that allows Hamas time to regroup, rest and then attack us again tomorrow or next week,” he said.
In East Jerusalem, where the latest round of violence began, there were violent clashes last night between Palestinian protesters and Israeli forces. The occupied West Bank witnessed similar scenes, as hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets to protest the Israeli provocations in Jerusalem and its assault on Gaza.
On Friday alone, 10 Palestinian protesters were killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers.
Violence spread across the region. Throughout Israel, in the mixed cities of Arabs and Jews, there have been several nights of horrific sectarian violence.
With the Israeli-Palestinian peace process virtually non-existent and the violence appearing to get out of control, there is concern that this could lead to a new uprising or Palestinian uprising, potentially opening a dark new chapter in the long-running conflict.
