The Astronomy Institute announced the launch of the Chinese probe Tianwen-1 to Mars aboard a Long March missile, 5 in July 2020, and the Chinese probe Tianwen-1 is the first Chinese attempt to reach details inside Mars, as it reached the surface of the Red Planet, Friday, May 14, 2021 .

And he continued: Once the probe and the rover entered the Martian atmosphere, the spacecraft took a similar procedure to NASA’s Mars rovers attempting an easy landing on Mars, as the heat shield protected the spacecraft during the landing, after which the mission landed safely by parachute and firing some small guided missile engines. Down to slow it down during the last few seconds of its descent into Utopia Planetia, a plain inside a massive collision basin in the northern hemisphere of Mars.

He added: The Chinese National Space Administration has not yet officially confirmed the successful landing, but it was announced on social media by the state-run China Global Television Network and researchers at the Macau University of Science and Technology in China, and the rover is expected to spend about 93 Earth days. On Mars, a day on Mars lasts about 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth, wandering around the surface of Mars to study planet formation and look for signs of water ice.

The Tianwen-1 is considered the first Chinese landing mission on Mars, but it is not the first Chinese flight to Mars, as it was the first for an orbiter called Yinghuo-1, launched in 2011.

The researcher at the Institute’s Space Research Laboratory pointed out that the goals of the mission are to verify the validity of communication and control techniques in deep space, to place it in orbit around the planet and land on its surface, to determine a site for returning samples of Mars in the future expected in the year 2030, and to study the morphology and geological composition of Mars and its development. And its causes, the characteristics of the surface and subsurface layers of the Martian soil, the distribution of water ice, the ionosphere, the climate, the seasons, and more generally the Martian atmosphere, the internal composition of Mars, its magnetic field, its geological development history, the internal distribution of its mass and its gravitational field.

For his part, Dr. Makram Ibrahim, head of the Sun and Space Research Department at the Institute, said that China is adopting a long program to explore outer space and has achieved great successes, including landing on the dark face of the moon and studying the details of Mars, and the failure of some flights does not discourage it from proceeding with the establishment of a space station away from the station. International Space, which had caused controversy during the few weeks after losing control of the Long March-5B missile, which landed in the Indian Ocean on May 9, 2021.

Dr. Gad Al-Qadi, the dean of the institute pointed out that the institute has scientific cooperation with the Chinese National Space Administration to establish a number of stations to monitor satellites and space debris, which will enhance the capabilities of the institute in the field of space research, as the institute began to monitor satellites since 1957 after the launch The first spacecraft of the Soviet Union, where the monitoring was by primitive cameras, the capabilities of the institute developed to establish a station to monitor satellites using laser beams in 1981, which is still in service.
