The perpetrator can face one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams.

The Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that speech or behavior that undermines public morals exposes residents to legal accountability.

Lawyers explained how indulging in inappropriate actions or insulting anyone in public or on social media in Dubai can get you in trouble.

Karim Hisham Taleb, the chief legal adviser, said that committing acts that are immoral or publicly insulting, either by hand gestures, making violations, or any other offensive or disturbing act, is punishable by at least six months in prison. If the said act is against a woman or boy of 15 years of age or younger, the perpetrator may face a one-year prison sentence and a fine of 10,000 dirhams.

Talib said: “Article 358 of the Federal Penal Code (the Criminal Code) of the United Arab Emirates states: Whoever commits an act that violates public morals shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than six months. Whoever commits an immoral act with a girl or boy who has not completed fifteen years of age, shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than a year. [the act was] Not openly committed. “

Karim said that anyone who insults or abuses a woman, or commits acts that violate public morals, can face one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams or either of those penalties. He said, “Such acts could be considered sexual harassment in a public place.”

In addition, if a man impersonates a woman to enter a place where only women are allowed, then it is also considered an indecent act. For example, if a man wears women’s clothes to enter a center or salon designated for women, he can be punished with imprisonment for up to a year, a fine of 10,000 dirhams, or both, Karim noted.
