Cannons hawthorn Kyle Hartigan He was suspended for three matches after footage of an out-of-the-ball hit on Carlton Superstar Sam Walsh appeared on social media.
Hartigan was accused of beating Walsh Carlton win with 23 points over the Hawks Walsh also came to block teammate Harry McKay’s defender deep in the offensive line in the fourth quarter.
When Walsh sprints toward McKay, Hartigan unleashes what appeared to be a right elbow in the Blues star’s face, sending him out into the grass, before sirens sounded to confirm Carlton’s victory just seconds later.
The incident was assessed as “intentional behavior, high impact” and “high communication” by AFL’s match review officer, Michael Christian.
Hartigan wasn’t the only player to anger the Christian Match Review, as Suns defender Nick Holman and Lashe Plowman of Carlton stopped two matches.
Holman was suspended for a chase that left Geelong star Mitch Duncan concussed in Geelong’s disguised victory over the Gold Coast.
Holman was accused of “rough behavior” for his treatment, with the incident assessed as “indifferent behavior, high impact (and) high friction.”
Blowman was charged with “engaging in rude behavior” against Hawthorn star Jaeger O’Meara in the fourth quarter of Carlton’s win, with the incident assessed as “indifferent behavior, high impact (and) high contact.”
It remains unclear whether the teams in question will challenge the players’ accusations.
