The Sheikh Zayed Book Award yesterday evening, Monday, at the main stage of the exhibition, honored the winners of its fifteenth session, and the proceedings of the award ceremony were broadcast virtually.
The head of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, confirmed that the award is one of the most prestigious literary appreciation awards in the Arab world.
“I hope the award winners will inspire more great minds around the world to create and innovate,” Al Mubarak added.
For his part, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, said: “The last session of the award witnessed an increase in the number of participants despite the pandemic, because it has the accuracy, distinction and ability to combine scientific and ethical values ​​to remain strongly expressing the name it bears, as it was established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, values ​​goodness in everyone’s conscience, as he builds the UAE society.
He continued, “The award is based on the philosophy of giving, creativity and excellence, and calls for dialogue and coexistence, and takes knowledge and science as an approach, which is evident in the work of the award winners, which includes more than 100 writers, researchers and translators from the Arab region since its launch in 2016.”
A number of award winners confirmed to Al Khaleej that the award is an important bridge for exchanging ideas in literature and culture, and is characterized by a high degree of integrity and transparency. They indicated that their publications won the honor of winning this high-level award, according to Tunisian researcher Khalil Qawia, a professor of aesthetics, art theories and semiology. For her part, the American researcher and professor of ancient Arabic literature at the University of Chicago, Tahera Qutbuddin, winner of the Arab Culture in Other Languages ​​Branch Prize, confirmed that the award is a link between the Arabic-speaking world and the rest of the languages, as it contributes to converging views and spreading values Humanity and tolerance among human beings.
Researcher Saeed Al-Masry, professor of sociology at Cairo University, the winner in the development and state building branch, said that the award is one of the most important Arab prizes that are characterized by a high degree of integrity and transparency, and that elevates creativity, and is considered a great honor for every Arab creator, writer and intellectual who obtains it.
