In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver, stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. This is the story of how, why and who was it. Turns out he was just a stuttering British guy who didn’t like to pay for the BBC and wanted to come up with a plan to change it. Jim Broadbent Stars like Kimpton, with Helen MirrenAnd the Matthew JuddAnd the Charlotte SpencerAnd the Fionn Whitehead, And the John Heffernan. This isn’t a major crime so much as it is a comedy about this guy. It’s a good, entertaining story, and some will find it fun to watch.

The Duke is the true story of Kimton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver who stole Goya’s picture of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and still the only) robbery in the show’s history. Kempton sent ransom notes saying he would return the painting on the condition that the government invest more in caring for the elderly – he has long campaigned for retirees for free TV. What happened next became the stuff of legend. Only 50 years later the full story surfaced – Kempton had spun a web of lies. The only truth is that he was a good man, bent on changing the world and saving his marriage – how and why he used the Duke to achieve this is a great story. The Duke Directed by the famous British director Roger Michel, Director of many other films including PersuadeAnd the My night with regAnd the Titanic TownAnd the Notting HillAnd the Changing tracksAnd the the motherAnd the Everlasting loveAnd the VenusAnd the Morning gloryAnd the Hyde Park in HudsonAnd the weekendAnd the My cousin RachelAnd last year blackbird Previously. The script was written by Richard Bean and Cliff Coleman. Produced by Nikki Bentham. This premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. Pathé will be released The Duke In select UK movie theaters starting with Sep 3rd this year. A US version has not yet been set. First impression? Does it look good?
