The World Health Organization has warned that smokers face a 40-50% greater risk of developing severe disease and dying from the Covid-19 virus.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: Smokers face up to 50% greater risk of severe disease and death due to Coronavirus-19, so quitting smoking is the best thing smokers can do to reduce the risk of infection with Corona, as well as the risk of cancer, heart disease, and respiratory diseases.
Ghebreyesus urged all countries to do their part by joining the organization’s campaign “Decide to quit tobacco use today!” Creating tobacco-free environments provides people with the information, support, and tools they need to quit smoking and quit forever..
