Jodie Foster joins the likes of Agnes Varda, Jane Fonda and Jeanne Moreau. The actress, director and producer will receive the Cannes Film Festival of Honor “in recognition of a brilliant career and a unique personality with a humble but firm commitment to some of the major challenges of our time,” a press release announced. She will be a special guest at the festival’s opening ceremony, where she will receive a tribute. Cannes will be held from 6 to 17 July.

“Cannes is a festival to which I owe so much, it completely changed my life,” commented Foster. “Although I have directed before, my first visit to the Croisette was a defining moment for me. It has always been my dream to show one of my films here. In fact, I had several opportunities to fulfill my dream, ”she said. “Cannes is a filmmaker film festival that honors artists. And I really appreciate it. ” She added: “I am pleased that Cannes has thought of me and I am honored to share a few wise words or share a couple of adventures with a new generation of filmmakers.”

Seven of Foster’s films were screened at the festival, including Taxi Driver, in which she starred at the age of 12, and Money Monster, her most recent directorial work.

A Cannes press release praises Foster’s “active contribution to rebuilding the highly personal work of Dorothy Arzner, one of the few filmmakers in the heart of Hollywood studios who has filmed courageous women who have been challenged by class and gender. This commitment is consistent with Foster’s own. – Regularly and for some time, the francophile artist expresses her opinion on parity in the film industry, for example, at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 as part of the Women in Motion program, the source notes.

Jane Campion remains the only female filmmaker to ever win the Palme d’Or, the most prestigious prize at the Cannes Competition. In 2018 Cannes Signs Gender Parity Oath consent to the collection of statistical data by gender, including the number of films submitted; identify members of admissions committees and programmers; and schedule commitments to achieve parity in your boards.

A four-time Academy Award nominee, Foster took home statuettes for Silence of the Lambs and The Accused. She was last seen in the “Mauritanian”.
