Three people were killed and at least six injured in the shooting in Florida The prom night, the latest in a series of similar acts of violence in the Miami area, police said Sunday.

One of those killed was a state correctional officer, Miami-Dade Police Director Freddie Ramirez told news agencies. He said the party in the mall’s lobby was drawing to a close when one or more cars “pulled up and started shooting at the crowd.”

The identity of those killed and wounded on Sunday was not disclosed. The shooting took place at about 2 am in the suburbs of Kendall.

Two of the victims were in one of the cars, which, according to the police, were involved in the shooting. The car rushed off and crashed into a nearby wall. Authorities found at least one shotgun in the car, but its exact link to the shooting is not clear.

Sunday’s shooting follows a bloody Memorial Day weekend in the Miami area, in which three people were killed and 20 injured in a still unsolved mass shooting in a banquet hall.
