Essendon’s young shooter Nick Cox was finally awarded an AFL Rising Star nomination for a great debut season after playing against Richmond.
The No. 8 pick in last year’s draft was widely recognized as the best of a vibrant group of freshmen, but has not yet been nominated for a Rising Star Award.
However, the 19-year-old finally gained his acclaim after scoring 23 goals and losing in Bombers’ Dreamtime to Richmond of Washington.
Cox joins Sydney trio Errol Gulden, Braden Campbell and Chad Warner, as well as Lachlan Scholl, Mitch Georgiades, Jacob Kosicek, Luke Jackson, James Jordon and Cody Weiman as the players who will be nominated for this year’s Rising Star Awards for this year’s Rising Star.
To date, the 200cm striker has played in all 12 of Essendon’s matches, averaging 13.2 throws per fight, and has also scored eight goals.
