US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he intends to raise “sensitive issues” during an upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Biden added: “I’m going to attend the G7 summit, then the NATO meeting, and then I’ll meet with Mr. Putin to tell him what I want him to know,” CNN reports.
He said he came to Europe “to defend the very concept of democracy.” Biden arrived in the UK on Wednesday for his first trip overseas as President of the United States, during which he will visit several European countries.
Biden is due to meet today Thursday with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson near Cornwall, where the G7 summit will take place from Friday to Sunday.
On the sidelines of the summit, Biden is expected to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other G7 leaders.
Biden is scheduled to attend a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Brussels next Monday, where he will hold a high-level meeting with representatives of the European Union the next day.
Biden is expected to hold a summit next Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom the world eagerly awaits before returning to Washington.
“This tour will underscore America’s commitment to rallying global democracies, working together to shape road rules for the 21st century, protecting our values and addressing the world’s greatest challenges,” the White House said.
