Spain and Sweden will aim for a better start in Group E on Monday night when the two countries meet in Seville. Preparations for both countries were not easy, but in this match neither side will have excuses.
UEFA EURO 2020 Announcement
Spain and Sweden have met each other on numerous occasions over the past couple of years as they also fell into the same qualifying group. Spain was able to lead this group with 26 points in ten games played. They won eight times and drew twice. They played excellently at goal throughout qualifying, scoring 31 goals and conceding just five times. Spain has witnessed some terrific football in the last couple of months when they beat Germany 6-0 in November. However, their preparations for the tournament were shaken by COVID incidents and it is still unknown which team the Spaniards will field on Monday. They were forced to field their U21 team against Lithuania on Tuesday night, but recorded a 4-0 success.
Sweden confidently qualified for the EURO, finishing second in the group. They have scored 21 points in the games they have played and have lost only once, and that defeat was against Spain. Sweden won six games they played in qualifying but played three times. At least the Swedes are entering the tournament with good momentum, as they won their three warm-ups for the competition. In those three games, they scored six goals. Their last win was on Saturday night in a 3-1 match against Armenia. Markus Berg and Emil Forsberg both scored a goal.
Match between Spain and Sweden
Since 1998, Sweden has beaten Spain only once. This victory was achieved in the EURO qualifying round in October 2016 when they won 2-0 in Stockholm. Since then, they have lost three of the previous four to Spain. However, the last match between the countries in October 2019 was a 0-0 draw.
Spain vs Sweden Forecast
These parties will be aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, but it will be difficult to see Spain emerge from this game with anything other than victory. It may be a tense start, but Spain will likely end the game with a 2-0 win.
