Athletes and media attending the Tokyo Games may be GPS monitored to cope with potential COVID-19 outbreaks. However, instead of tracking athletes’ movements in real time, the system is expected to be used retroactively to track athletes and the media retroactively in the event of problems. The postponed Olympic Games will kick off on July 23 amid fears that an influx could put pressure on Japan’s already strained medical system.
