Of Israel recent actions in Gases and the occupied Palestinian territories are tantamount to “crimes against humanity,” the Turkish Foreign Minister said in a special meeting at the UN Human Rights Council today. Anadolu Agency reports.
“Israel’s attacks on Palestinian civilians are tantamount to crimes against humanity. There is no justification for such aggression, ”Mevlut Cavusoglu said during a meeting on the deterioration of the human rights situation in occupied Palestine, including East Jerusalem.
Stressing that the latest “heartbreaking” scenes in Palestine were the result of Israeli provocations in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, Cavusoglu said they were part of a “systematic campaign of ethnic, religious and cultural cleansing.” … “
At the meeting, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called for a special investigation into possible crimes committed during the recent 11 days bombing it started on May 10th.
Cavusoglu added that there is no justification for the “inhuman blockade” of the Gaza Strip, stating that this “collective punishment” should be lifted immediately.
According to the foreign minister, the international community has a responsibility to protect the Palestinians. “We must find effective tools to end Israel’s impunity.”
“Let’s be realistic: if we do not address the root causes of the conflict, the suffering of the Palestinians will continue,” he stressed.
Cavusoglu said that the plight of the Palestinians cannot end unless the illegal occupation also ends and they do not have their own state.
“The Human Rights Council plays an important role in all of these areas. No more words. We need actions and they are needed now, ”Cavusoglu said.
At the same meeting, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said: “This council must act to correct the mistake.
“This council must ensure the realization of the basic rights of the Palestinians – the right to life and the right to self-determination. This advice should bring the aggressor to justice through an international investigation. “
