Zheng Yixin, deputy head of the National Health Commission, told a news conference in Beijing that he was surprised to see a leak in a laboratory listed as a research objective in the second phase of the investigation.
“In some cases, the WHO’s plan for the next phase of the investigation into coronavirus origin does not respect common sense and is against science. It is impossible for us to accept such a plan,” he said.
Zheng also claimed that several workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill before the first documented cases of Conged-1 of, responding to a US State Department claim.
Little new evidence has emerged to support the theory that the virus was caused by an accidental leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where coronavirus research is believed to be carried out on a spoon, and many scientists familiar with the research say such a leak is possible. Not possible.
“We urge China to be transparent and free and to cooperate,” he told a news conference. “We are the ones who suffered and millions of people died to know what happened.”
He said, “China’s position on the issue of global origin-finding is consistent and clear. The (original) study is a scientific issue. All parties should respect the views of scientists and scientific findings rather than politicize the issue.”
