India has taken steps with foreign governments to help Indians who have to travel back to different countries
India expressed hope on Thursday that more countries would take steps to normalize the overseas movement of people from India.
“With the improvement of the Covid-19 situation in India, we have taken up with foreign countries the issue of easing travel restrictions for Indians,” said Arindam Bagchi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a media briefing.
“We believe this is an important element for economic recovery. Some positive steps have been taken in this direction,” added Bagchi. Many countries, including some GCC states, have imposed restrictions on Indians’ entry and suspended flights to and from India following a second wave of Coronavirus spread in India several months ago.
Two weeks ago, Indian Foreign Minister V Muraleedharan met with Indian ambassadors in the Gulf to discuss initiatives to resume passenger flights to India from their countries of accreditation, the spokesman said.
Both India’s foreign minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and foreign minister, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, have taken steps with foreign governments to help Indians who have to return to various countries around the world.
