Breaking: The Hale Ender has committed his long-term future to the club
Emile Smith Rowe has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new long-term deal to tie his future to Arsenal.
The 20-year-old broke through into the first team after the Christmas season last season, making 34 appearances for the Gunners, scoring four times and assisting three more times.
The youth form had seen him attract the attention of several clubs, with Aston Villa making two offers for the England under-21 international and Real Madrid reportedly showing an interest as well.
But now he has silenced all doubts about where he will play his football in the long term by signing a new contract to stay with the Emirates.
Smith Rowe has now been rewarded for his decision by being handed the number 10 shirt he will wear next season, succeeding Mesut Ozil.
It is another breach of contract for Arsenal, who in recent years have been able to sign young players Bukayo Saka, Folarin Balogun and Arthur Okonkwo on long-term contracts. Technical director Edu admitted this was key to the club’s long-term plans and identity.
“This is another important step forward for us and we are all delighted that Emile has signed a new long-term contract,” said the Brazilian.
“It’s great to see another young player develop through our academy system into an important part of our first team.
“Emile is a player who represents the future of the club and that’s why we gave him the number 10 shirt. We have confidence in Emile and we know he has the potential to be a great player for many years to come.”
Mikel Arteta added to Edu’s words by expressing his joy that Smith Rowe would remain in the Emirates for the next few seasons.
“As we all saw last season, Emile is an intelligent player with excellent skills,” he said.
“His cornering sharpness and exceptional vision have already made him an important player for us. His attitude and eagerness to learn were also very impressive.
“Huge credit to our team in our academy, who gave Emile a great education and did a great job helping with his development across the age groups.
“Along with the first team staff, great credit also goes to our senior players, who have played such an important role in helping Emile develop, gain confidence and perform as he did last season.
“I know the fans will be delighted that Emile has committed his future to the Club. We now look forward to helping him develop further and to see him become even more important to the strong young team we are building.” to be.”
