Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that his country will seek global recognition for the state of “Turkish Cyprus” as soon as possible, as Turkish fighters staged military parades over the Turkish part of the island of Cyprus.

Erdogan congratulated members of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and said: “We will do our best to ensure that the Turkish Cypriot state gains widespread recognition as soon as possible,” the official said. Anadolu agency. .

The Turkish president added: “The only demand for Turkish Cypriots at the international negotiating table is recognition of their status as a sovereign state,” as he put it.
