ISL 2021-22: Adrian Luna has represented Uruguay in youth internationals
Adrian Luna is a Uruguayan youth international and has represented his country at U-17 and U-20 levels. He was part of the squad for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria and scored two goals in the competition, helping his team reach the quarter-finals. Luna was also part of the U-20 squad for the 2011 South American Youth Championship and the U-20 FIFA World Cup, scoring a total of six high-level goals.

Adrian Luna is fresh off winning the A-League title with Melbourne City. Melbourne won both the Premier and Championship titles, for the first time in their history, with Luna contributing three goals and four assists. The Uruguayan left the club after his contract expired and his stint with Kerala Blasters will mark his first spell in Asia.

ISL 2021-22: Adrian Luna’s journeyman career for Kerala Blasters
Adrian Luna has shown great adaptability throughout his career and moving to a new country should not be a problem for the 29-year-old attacker. Luna started his career at the youth academies of Club Atletico Progreso, Montevideo Wanderers and Defensor Sporting in Uruguay. He had stints in Spain with Espanyol, Gimnastic and CE Sabadell before returning to Defensor. Luna then moved to Mexico where he practiced his profession with Tiburones Rojos and Venados FC before coming to Melbourne City in 2019.

ISL 2021-22: Adrian Luna’s ISL roots
Interestingly, while Adrian Luna has never played in the ISL before, he has teamed up with some of the foreign stars who have made their mark in the league. The 29-year-old played with former FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC star Manuel Lanzarote, during their stint as Sabadell. He also teamed up with former NorthEast United’s Simao Sabrosa at Espanyol. He had joined the Catalan club primarily as a replacement for former Delhi Dynamos and ATK star Kalu Uche.
ISL 2021-22: Aggressive Kerala Blasters Continue Drawing
In a club career spanning more than 11 years, Adrian Luna made 336 appearances for all clubs, scoring 47 times and providing 46 assists. The Uruguayan is the Kerala Blasters’ first acquisition abroad, after new head coach Ivan Vukomanovic took over earlier in June. The Blasters are active in the market and have so far signed Sanjeev Stalin, Ruivah Hormipam, Vincy Barretto and Harmanjot Khabra. Luna’s announcement indicates that more new signings and contract renewals could follow in the coming weeks. The Yellow Army finished in a disappointing 10th place last year and hopes the arrival of Adrian Luna and Co. bring them closer to a play-off spot.
