In what is a big boost for India, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant joined the team’s bio-bubble in Durham on Wednesday ahead of the five-game Test series against England. However, it has been reported that Bharat Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran are still isolated.

Rishabh Pant emerged as India’s highest finisher in Tests in 2021. He has scored 560 runs in seven Tests at the age of 56 and had been instrumental in India Down Under’s Test series victory. Given all this, when he tested positive for COVID-19, it came as a big blow to the Indian team. However, he has not only recovered from the virus, but has also joined the team bubble in Durham. The left-hander completed his mandatory 10-day isolation period under the country’s guidelines. Notably, the young gloveman had tested positive as the Indian team took a break after the World Testing Championship final.

India’s throwdown specialist and masseur Dayanand Garani had also tested positive for the novel Coronavirus, which has forced the likes of Bharat Arun, Wriddhiman Saha and Abhimanyu Easwaran into isolation for having close contacts with him. They are still undergoing 10 days of isolation. The Indian men’s team had received their second dose of COVID vaccine earlier this month.

India currently faces County XI in a three-day exhibition game, which will end on July 22. They may still be playing a warm-up match, but this has not yet been confirmed. The five-match test series between India and England starts on August 4 in Nottingham. Last time, when India toured England, they were beaten 1-4. Their last Test series win on English soil had been led by Rahul Dravid 14 years ago.
