Tokyo Olympics: after Andy Murray, defending champion Simone Biles withdraws from the team competition: American gymnast Simone Biles has withdrawn from the rest of the team finals of the Tokyo Olympics.
The reigning champion will no longer play a role in the final on Tuesday, Olympics.com reports.
Biles’ withdrawal is a major blow to the US team. Last week, Biles became the first Olympic athlete with her own custom hashtag emoji on Twitter. Earlier, British tennis player Andy Murray withdrew from the men’s singles at the Tokyo Olympics.

Murray defended his Olympic gold medal, but the British player decided to withdraw to manage his workload.
However, he will continue to compete for Team GB in the men’s doubles tournament with Joe Salisbury.
“I am very disappointed to have to withdraw but the medical staff advised me against playing in both events so I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from singles and focus on doubles with Joe” Murray said in an official statement.
Murray had won Olympic gold at the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio Games.
American golfer Bryson DeChambeau and world No. 1 Jon Rahm are also no longer participating in the Tokyo Olympics because they tested positive for coronavirus.
