Shawky Gharib: We will not lose hope of qualifying for the second round of the Olympics

Egyptian Olympic football team coach Shawky Gharib confirmed that the Pharaohs’ chances of qualifying for the next round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics still exist before they face Australia, in the third round of the group stage matches .

Shawky Gharib said in the press conference before facing Australia: “We still have an opportunity and we will try to keep it. We will not lose hope and tomorrow we have to win.”

On the other hand, the results of the technical meeting of the match between Egypt and Australia scheduled in the final nations competitions in the group stage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which witnessed the presence of Dr. Alaa Abdel Aziz, Team Manager, Dr. Ayman Zain, team doctor, and Mohamed El Shawarby, member of the Federation, agreed that the Egyptian team will play in red and black.

The International Football Association (FIFA) assigned the lead of the national Olympic team’s match against its Australian counterpart to Portuguese referee Arter Diaz, with the help of Rui Barbosa and Paulo Suarez.

Egypt must beat Australia by two goals tomorrow to maintain its chances of qualifying for the second round, pending the outcome of the second match between Spain and Argentina, to be held at the same time.

The Egyptian Olympic team, led by Shawky Gharib, is fourth and last in its group at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, after losing to Argentina with a clean goal in the match held at the Sapporo Dome, as part of of the second round matches of the third group, including Spain, Argentina and Australia.

Egypt’s group standings at the Tokyo Olympics:

Spain .. in first place with 4 points

Australia .. in second place with 3 points

Argentina .. in third place with 3 points

Egypt .. in fourth place by a single point
