At least five people were killed and several others injured in an attack on a minibus carrying a local football team in Somalia yesterday.
The bus was in the coastal town of Kismayo when the blast happened.
“They were on their way to the football stadium to play a match in the local league at the time of the strong explosion,” said police officer Sadiq Mahmoud. “We do not know the motive behind the attack, but we believe that the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement is behind it,” he added.
“We have confirmed that five have been killed, more than twelve have been injured and players are still missing,” he said.
These militias have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the “Al-Shabab” movement prevented the organization of football matches in the areas under its control.
The office of President Muhammad Abdullah Muhammad expressed condolences via his Twitter account, accusing the Al-Shabab terrorist movement associated with al-Qaeda of carrying out the explosion.
The loud explosion was heard throughout the city, where many politicians and candidates attended the regional elections that had begun to elect four new members of the Senate.
