To say Francisco Lindor was ecstatic about the New York Mets’ trade takeover of Javier Baez is a massive understatement.

The New York Mets, who were heavily expected to make a huge stride on the MLB trading deadline, did not disappoint. With the big names being taken off the board, Mets fans were starting to get nervous that they would shut up on the trade deadline. But thanks to a push from shortstop Francisco Lindor, the Mets took over shortstop Javier Baez from the Chicago Cubs.

After the trade was successful, Baez and pitcher Trevor Williams were taken from the Cubs in exchange for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Lindor was ecstatic. According to Howie Rose, Lindor “let go with a primal scream” upon hearing the Baez trade. Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News said Lindor, closer Edwin Diaz and other players hugged and screamed on the field.

Francisco Lindor Ecstatic To Watch Javier Baez Land With Mets

Yes, Lindor definitely likes the Baez trade.

When Baez goes to New York, he’ll start at a short stop as Lindor is on the injured list with a grade 2 oblique strain, where he’s expected to be sidelined for the next few weeks as of this writing. Once Lindor returns, the Mets will have great fun pairing him with Baez to create a dynamic doubles combination for the rest of the season.

Through 91 games with the Cubs, Baez cut .248/.292/.484 while recording 22 home runs, 65 RBI, 48 runs scored and 83 hits.

The Mets had to make a move on the deadline to extend their lead in the NL East. They felt that adding Baez would help them in their quest for their first trip to the World Series since 2015.

Now enjoy it, Mets fans, because Baez is going to free agency this winter to cash in on a similar contract that Lindor got last season.
