PSV Eindhoven welcome Benfica to the Philips Stadium for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off match.
The victors took a 2-1 victory in the reverse stage in Portugal and will aim to continue that momentum and secure their place in the group stage of the European tournament.
PSV Eindhoven’s chances of reaching the group stage of the UEFA Champions League were dealt a huge blow when they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg against Benfica in the last qualifying round.
In that meeting, Rafa Silva and Julian Weigl gave Benfica a comfortable two-goal lead, before Cody Gakpo pulled one back for PSV in the 51st minute.
Before that, PSV had an impressive run of 16 unbeaten matches, with 13 wins and three draws.
However, they came back from that result and last time they won 4-1 against SC Cambuur in the Eredivisie.
Head coach Roger Schmidt hopes his side can build on that achievement as they face the tough test on Tuesday to wipe out a one-goal deficit against a solid Benfica side.
Meanwhile, Benfica enters the game after beating Gil Vicente 2-0 in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
After a quiet first half, Benfica raised the stakes in the second half and were rewarded with goals from Lucas Veríssimo and Alejandro Grimaldo.
Benfica have now won each of their last six games in all competitions and are unbeaten in their last 10.
They will now aim to keep the juggernaut rolling as they aim for a return to the Champions League group stage.
PSV vs Benfica Head-to-Head
It will be the fifth meeting between the two sides. Benfica has a slight upper hand, claiming two wins from their previous four encounters. PSV has won one victory, while the loot has been shared once.
