A new start to school under the seal of the health crisis

Close as few classes as possible and preserve the education of students: the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer officially presented the beginning of the year 2021-2022 on August 26, once again disrupted by the Covid-19, hoping “as normal as possible “.

We can be completely serene about the start of the new school year, it will take place, of course, we will encounter difficulties, of course, there will be problems, we allow ourselves to manage “

Jean-Michel Blanquer

The minister tried to answer all the questions that still hover over the conditions of the return, on September 2, in their classes of 12.4 million students and 866,500 teachers, at a time when the circulation of the Delta variant is worrying the authorities.

This return must take place under the regime of scenario 2 (out of four) of the health protocol drawn up by the Ministry, which authorizes to receive all students in person.
Under these rules, a case of Covid-19 in a primary sector classroom leads to a shutdown, as it did in June. In middle and high school, if infected in a classroom, only students with unvaccinated contact cases will have to isolate themselves for a week.
The minister has expressed his wish to lose “as few teaching hours” as possible to secondary and secondary school students. “We are opting for open schools (…) We are not going to close a class in secondary education, we are just going to protect the students who need to be protected”.
