The Caldor Fire painted the sky a cloudy purple as it advanced toward South Lake Tahoe, California, on August 29. The 277-square-mile Caldor Fire forced residents in the Lake Tahoe area to evacuate on Aug. 29. Evacuation warnings and orders were issued for parts of El Dorado, Amador and Alpine provinces that day, and a red flag warning was put in place. Filmed by Randi Toms on August 29, this video shows the dark sky over South Lake Tahoe. She captioned the video “#PrayforTahoe.” Fire officials released a smoke forecast on Aug. 30, which predicted smoky conditions for South Lake Tahoe on Monday and Tuesday. By August 30, the Caldor Fire was contained 14 percent. Full containment is expected by September 8. Credit: Randi Toms via Storyful
