Greek police said on Monday that Portuguese defender Ruben Semedo had been arrested following allegations that he sexually assaulted an underage girl.
Semedo, 27, the Greek champion Olympiakos player, was arrested Sunday after a 17-year-old girl complained to police that she had been sexually assaulted at the player’s home near the capital Athens.
Police say another man is wanted for questioning over sexual assault charges.
Semedo’s lawyer, Stavros Gorgopoulos, confirmed that the player denied the allegations against him.
Semedo appeared in court today to present evidence and was given 24 hours to prepare his defense.
Semedo previously played in Villarreal, Spain, taking part in three caps with the Portuguese national team, knowing he moved to the Greek league two years ago.
