- Chelsea target Saul Niguez has been told he can’t move to Stamford Bridge
- The 26-year-old has been linked with a loan transfer to the European champions
- However, Atlético Madrid has chosen not to let the Spaniard leave
- It is one of two setbacks Thomas Tuchel’s side has suffered this summer window
- Sevilla have upped the valuation of defender Jules Koude by £13 million
Atletico Madrid have told midfielder Saul Niguez he cannot leave the club this summer as the Spaniard’s proposed transfer to Chelsea appears to be crumbling just hours before the window closes.
Saul, 26, has been heavily linked this summer with a move to Stamford Bridge, with the midfielder looking for a new challenge having spent his entire career at Atletico.
He was not selected by Luis Enrique for the national team at the European Championship and missed again for the upcoming international break and a fresh start at Chelsea would give Saul the chance to prove his worth to Enrique.
Atlético Madrid have told Saul Niguez he cannot leave the club for Chelsea this summer
A loan with an option to buy in Chelsea’s favour was looming, but talks stalled this weekend when reports of the deal had been cut completely and Atletico changed their mind about their star’s departure.
And Sportsmail understands that the LaLiga champions have informed Saul that he will not be leaving this summer. Unless something drastic changes in the remaining hours of the period, he will not be loaned to Chelsea.
Atletico are trying to move some of their younger players on Deadline Day, but don’t want to lose key older players before the window closes. Saul is seen as such a key player by the club’s hierarchy and Diego Simeone.
The 26-year-old is strongly linked with a move to Thomas Tuchel’s European kings
However, Atletico Madrid plan to keep their senior and key players
The latest development is one of two major setbacks the European champions have suffered in the past 48 hours, with a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kunde also hitting an obstacle after the LaLiga club shifted the goalposts.
The Blues had agreed a £43 million fee for the French defender, but reports suggest Sevilla have now raised the valuation of the 22-year-old by a further £12.8 million.
Sevilla are sticking to their new price for Kounde, while Chelsea are adamant they won’t be bullied into living up to their newfound valuation as the clubs are at a deadlock with just hours to go.
Missing Saul and Kunde will be a blow to Thomas Tuchel, who is looking to bolster his team in their attack on the Premier League title.
It’s one of the Blues’ two hits, with the Jules Koude deal also in the ropes
