Leeds United are delighted to confirm the signing of Manchester United’s Daniel James.
The winger was close to Leeds during the 2018/19 Championship season and continued to impress with his hard-working character and blazing fast pace.
The Whites have now secured the Wales international on a five-year contract, which runs until the summer of 2026, for an undisclosed fee.
James has represented Wales at various youth levels, making his international debut as a senior in November 2018.
The 23-year-old made his professional debut for Swansea City in February 2018, before signing for local rivals Manchester United in the summer of 2019. He quickly wowed fans with three goals in his first four appearances with the club, scoring on his Premier League debut and receiving the club’s Player of the Month award during his first-ever month with the team. He played 74 games in all competitions and scored a total of nine goals.
James will be Leeds’ eighth signing during the summer transfer window and will join Marcelo and the team after the international break ahead of our home game against Liverpool, where he will be met by a sold-out crowd on Elland Road. He has chosen to wear the number 20 shirt during his time at the club.
Victor Orta, director of football at Leeds United, has been a huge fan of the player in recent years and is looking forward to the impact he will have on the team for the 2021/22 season. first of all a big thank you to my team – the football department has been watching Daniel for a number of years and every member of my team has worked hard to get this deal over the line. It’s no secret that Daniel is a player we’ve been wanting to buy for a number of years and today we achieved our goal.
“As a player, we think Daniel is a great fit for a Marcelo Bielsa team, he is quick, direct and hard working – we are looking forward to him finally joining the squad!”
