The deadline for roster reductions has officially arrived. Today at 3 p.m. CST, the Minnesota Vikings must reduce their roster to 53 players. So yes, it will be a busy day for the Vikings organization and news channels. Today PurplePTSD brings you this year’s edition of the schedule tracker. Any news today regarding signings, cutbacks, maybe even transactions(?), will be brought to you through this article.
Before we officially get into the news, what are we watching here on PurplePTSD? In recent weeks, a number of articles have been posted speculating about what the final roster of Vikings will look like after the 53-man deadline. Two such articles are listed below and you can check them out before they become officially irrelevant:
I think I can speak for our editor-in-chief, Kyle Joudry, when I say there are three main areas of the team that we’ll be watching closely when cuts are announced: Defensive End, Wide Receiver and Tight End. All three of these rooms appear to be overcrowded at the moment, and it seems inevitable that they will be trimmed down a bit. Depending on how much trimming is done here, it will have a big effect on other parts of the team. For example, will the Vikings make an effort to wear three QBs? Or is there enough room for AJ Rose to become a fifth RB? We don’t have the answers to that yet, but clues are starting to appear in the list of moves below.
Note: Make sure to check back throughout the day to get all the updated news as well as VikingsTerritory for their own coverage!
Vikings Cut Three Players
The journey to 53 begins. The Vikings have officially cut ties with RB Ito Smith, C Cohl Cabral and DT Zeandae Johnson.
