Manchester United completes signing of Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester: Manchester United completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday for his second stint at Old Trafford for a fee of up to 23 million euros ($27 million) from Juventus.

“Manchester United are delighted to confirm the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo to a two-year contract with the option to extend for another year, pending international approval,” United said in a statement.

Ronaldo is expected to make his second United debut against Newcastle at Old Trafford on September 11.

Cristiano Ronaldo said:

“Manchester United are a club that has always held a special place in my heart and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday. I can’t wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a packed stadium and all the fans I look forward to joining the team after the international matches and I hope we have a very successful season ahead of us.”

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

“You are out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a great player, but also a great person. To have the desire and ability to play at the highest level for such a long period of time takes a very special person. I have no doubt that he will continue to impress us and his experience will be so important to the younger players in the squad. Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted to see him return to the place where it all began.”

It should be noted that United announced on August 27 that Ronaldo will return to Manchester United (MU) after reaching an agreement with Italian club Juventus.

Ronaldo left United in 2009 to go to Real Madrid for £80 million. He had scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United, winning his first Ballon d’Or and Champions League title, as well as three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups.
