MANILA, Philippines – EJ Obiena has made a leap in the right direction on his path to Paris 2024 after recently setting a new Philippine standard in the IAAF Diamond League.
Obiena rose to a personal best of 5.91 meters to take the silver medal in the same city where the next Summer Olympics will take place.
The 25-year-old Tokyo Olympian relived his best performance yet on Monday on his Instagram account.
World record holder and Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis from Switzerland claimed the gold after a jump of 6.01 meters.
Since last week, Obiena is sixth in the world ranking for men’s pole vault. He is only 15 points behind number 5 Piotr Lisek from Poland.
