Where I disagree with Dustin and Wesley

Earlier, Dustin and Wes published their projection for the 53-strong Vikings roster. For the most part I think they nailed it. I do have some disagreements. Instead of writing down my own full list, I’ll just highlight the discrepancies. For a refresher, jump to their projection on either Purple PTSD or Viking area.

QB: Dust and Wes suggest – quite rightly – that Kirk and Kellen will be on this team. What I disagree with is that Browning will be cut off. We all know how bad it can get with one positive test so I expect the Vikes to keep their third year UDFA as he is fully vaccinated.

RB: My only complaint is that AJ Rose makes the team. I find it hard to believe that they will keep him even after all the positives he showed during the pre-season. There’s just too much talent in that position. I expect they will try to keep him on the practice squad.

FB: I actually think they will keep both CJ Ham and Jake Bargas. Why keep two FBs when many teams don’t even use one? Simple. Irv Smith Jr. is out for a while; Bargas is a capable pass catcher. He was a safe option for our young QBs all pre-season. Kirk Cousins specifically praised him in a recent press conference. If he can line up at TE, provide some blocking, and maybe even grab a few passes, Zim can try and keep him.

WR: They believe that Dede will remain as the WR6. I’ve already written about how I don’t think it makes much sense to keep it, so my grid projection cut it. The Vikings start with 5 receivers.

AT: This is a difficult one. I’m subtracting Brandon Dillon from their projection to make the numbers work. Admittedly, I don’t know what our team is going to do here. Life without Irv will be tough.

OL: I think they nailed this one. As much as fans will hate it, Dakota Dozier is probably on this team.

DL: I find it hard to think of too many disagreements with the group they list. The only caveat I would add is that the team may be tempted to keep Jalyn Holmes. To make room, they might have to cut an LB (my guess would be Ryan Connelly).

LB: I think Blake Lynch will find his way to this team. He had some nice shots during the preseason. Put me down in front of Lynch over Connelly. I got an extra player from the attack, so maybe I’ll use that extra spot on Lynch.

DB: I also think they will keep 6 CBs. What I would cautiously disagree with is their decision to cut Metellus. He is a great player in special teams. Expect the Vikings to find room for him, even if that means moving Bynum to the practice team.
