Collierville PD confirms Nashville connection to Kroger shooting, friend remembers victim

MEMPHIS, TN (WSMV) – Law enforcement has named a suspect in the deadly mass shooting at Collierville Kruger on Thursday afternoon.

Police identified him as 29-year-old UK Thang. News4 also found that police searched his home two miles from Collierville Kruger but would not reveal what they found.

Outside Thang’s parents’ home in Antioch, several cars lined the driveway and Cool-D-Sack. Family friends say Thang’s parents live in Antioch, where Friday prayers were held.

“For better or worse, we should just encourage each other to be good people,” said a family friend.

Thang’s parents were reluctant to speak due to language barriers and ongoing investigations. But one of his church friends is telling everyone to pray for Thang’s family.

“I am very sorry for this family and for me personally. I am praying for them because I am a believer and a Christian. ”

At around 1:30 p.m., police said 15 people were shot in a store on New Bayhalia Road on Thursday. Among them was a woman, identified as Olivia King, who was shot in the chest. Police told News4 that 10 employees and 5 customers were injured during the shooting.

Dozens of people gathered in front of Collierville City Hall with just a few hours notice. People of all religions are praying for hope and strength. Two women inside the shop told what happened during the shooting.

“The community is ready to show up together. Great things happen when you get together.”

Many people had to hide inside freezers and offices inside the store under active shooter conditions.

Collierville Police Department Chief Dale Lane spoke to News4 about the emotional state of his officers.

“Our hearts are broken. No one wants to go into that scene. I promise you, ”Lane said. “You do what you want to do.”

Law enforcement has released the name of the suspect in the deadly mass shooting at Collierville Kruger on Thursday afternoon.



The shooter was a third-party vendor in Kroger, police said. The bigger question is why.

The Collierville community is coming together for vigilance after the deadly shooting.
