After dominating the chase for most of the match, Punjab lost the plot in the final after losing to captain KL Rahul. However, with a bit of luck on their side, the Kings were able to secure two crucial points. At the end of the match Rahul said:

“We’re used to this, but I’ll take the two points. We played brilliantly and smartly. We realized it was a decent wicket. There wasn’t much spin. The bowlers felt we could make the batsmen sideways. I am very happy that we were able to cross the line. Of course I want to finish matches.”

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got Punjab Kings off to a flying start in their pursuit of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ 166 runs. They added 70 runs for the first wicket before Kolkata called in with wickets at regular intervals to levitate themselves.

However, Rahul skipped to the last before Shahrukh Khan won the duel thanks to a lucky break.

“We know he can hit the ball far” – KL Rahul on Shahrukh Khan

The young batsman from Tamil Nadu, who played the first game in the second phase of IPL 2021, made an immediate impression and helped his side to a crucial victory. Shahrukh Khan scored 22 on 9 deliveries, including two sixes, to take the Punjab Kings home.

KL Rahul praised Khan and said he trained hard with the batting coaches. He said:

“Shahrukh worked really well with the batting coaches, asking a lot of questions and developing a game where he can play 170-180 without taking a lot of risks. We know he can hit the ball far. He did that for Tamil. Nadu.”

With 10 points from 12 games under their belt, the Punjab Kings will compete against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday afternoon in Sharjah.
