North Korea fires new anti-aircraft missile

North Korea’s official Korean central news agency said Friday it had tested a new anti-aircraft missile, the latest in a series of recent weapons tests.

The agency said the experiment conducted by the Academy of Defense Sciences, the country’s weapons development authority, aims to confirm the effectiveness of the missile’s missile launcher, radar, command vehicle and combat performance. She added that “the experience as a whole is of great practical importance in the study and development of future anti-aircraft missile systems.”

For his part, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said North Korea’s practices contribute to destabilization and security.
