MANILA, Philippines – Aby Maraño, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Eya Laure and Ivy Lacsin of Team Rebisco have been cleared to play in the 2021 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship under additional health and safety protocols.

Maraño and her teammates were unable to join Team Rebisco in their first match of the tournament against Altay, as the Thai health office had to undergo further quarantine after arriving from the Philippines on Wednesday.

“This is very good news, especially for the players who have sacrificed and committed themselves to the national team since the federation started the program in April,” said Ramon “Tats” Suzara, president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.

The absence of Maraño, Santiago-Manabat, Laure and Lacsina forced coach Odjie Mamon and adviser Jorge Edson Souza de Brito to make a change, with Kianna Dy and Mary Joy Baron moving from Team Choco Mucho to Team Rebisco.

However, Dy and Baron will not return to Choco Mucho because the FIVB, the sport’s governing body, will not allow the transfer of players once the competition starts.

“The FIVB rules state that you cannot transfer players once a tournament starts, so the four ladies return to Rebisco with the two players from Choco Mucho who will remain with Coach Jorge’s team,” said Suzara.

Rebisco lost his first match against Altay in straight sets, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17, and now plays against Thai club Supreme Chonburi.
