A man died while saving the life of a young boy “championally” after a kayak capsized New South Wales Central Coast, emergency services say.
Paramedics were called to Guandalan on Lake Macquarie at about 5:30 p.m. Friday as the man, believed to be in his 30s, was pulled out of the water by bystanders.
They gave him first aid, but he was not saved.
“It appears that the man heroically carried the little boy over the water when they capsized, saving his life,” said Inspector Andrew Craig of NSW Ambulance.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of bystanders and paramedics, the man was unable to revive him.”
The New South Wales Ambulance Service said paramedics examined the little boy at the scene and he was not injured.
