Former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops is deeply disappointed with the behavior of the Sooners fans against West Virginia last week when they jeered Spencer Rattler and asked Caleb Williams for his support.
Oklahoma football fans have been spoiled for great quarterback play in recent years. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray both won a Heisman Trophy and Jalen Hurts finished second to Heisman.
Spencer Rattler came in this year with Heisman expectations for the No. 2 preseason team that could bring a National Championship back to Norman.
Rattler is still having a great season as the Big 12’s leader in passing yards, and while he’s not Heisman’s favorite, the Sooners remain undefeated.
That hasn’t stopped Oklahoma football fans from wanting to let him sit on the bench in favor of the Caleb Williams phenomenon.
Bob Stoops disappointed in Oklahoma fans for Spencer Rattler’s treatment
At today’s Big Noon Kickoff, Stoops and the rest of the FOX panel were asked if Oklahoma fans were off limits for booing Rattler and chanting Williams’ name.
Stoops was direct and to the point when he said he was disappointed and that they must trust head coach Lincoln Riley to play the best player.
Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and Brady Quinn all followed his feelings and said it wasn’t right for Oklahoma football fans to berate Rattler.
As long as Rattler continues to win, especially this week against Kansas State, which has beaten them for the past two years, and next week’s rival Texas, that booing will turn into cheers.
