Calvin Abueva Still Leading PBA Best Player Race After Quarter-Finals

MANILA, Philippines – Calvin Abueva of Magnolia retained pole position in the conference’s best player race in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup.

Abueva, who led the race at the end of the elimination round, is again ahead after the quarter-finals as he racked up 36.4 average stat points on the back of 15.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks in 13 games.

TNT rookie Mikey Williams maintained his runner-up spot with 35.0 SPs average, while racking up game averages of 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 11 games.

NorthPort’s Robert Bolick was still in third place with 33.7 SP averages on a daily average of 17.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 13 games.

Unlike Abueva and Williams, however, Bolick and the Batang Pier have been eliminated from the playoffs.

Magnolia and TNT advance to the semifinals against Meralco and San Miguel respectively.

Abueva’s Hotshots teammate Ian Sangalang was fourth after the quarterfinals with 32.3 SPs average, while scoring 16.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 13 games.

San Miguel’s CJ Perez rounded out the top five with 31.5 SPs average on 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 13 games, most of which he played from the bench.
