MANILA, Philippines – Choco Mucho went winless in Group A after losing to Kazakh powerhouse Zhetysu, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15, in the 2021 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship Saturday at Terminal 21 in Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima.
The Philippine representative set a 0-2 record in the group stage, but the team is still playing in the quarter-finals where it will take on the number 2 team from Group B.
Zhetysu, the winner of nine Kazakhstani national titles for women’s volleyball, dominated the third set and never let Choco Mucho get into the rhythm again in the final period.
Choco Mucho’s Mylene Paat said it is a challenging match against Zhetyysu and her team came up with improvement this time. She needs more support for her team. #Heart attack #AVCVolley #AsianVolleyball #avcwomensclubchampionship2021 #avcwomenschampionship #avcwomensclub pic.twitter.com/BHgVVpojVl

Anastasiya Gurbanova gave Zhetysu a 22-13 lead and forced the ball through Kalei Mau’s block as he pushed the Kazakhs to a nine point lead late in the game.
Mau managed to save one last point for the Filipinos with a back row attack, but it was only a formality as Zhetysu rode to victory.
Zhetysu will play the next match of the tournament on Sunday against home city team Nakhon Ratchasima Qmin VC.
