2021 WWE Draft This week’s Friday Night SmackDown has officially kicked off as two major WWE brands have changed their nominees. While many of the best stars on each show were chosen to stay in place, many of the big names were also transferred. WWE has confirmed that the footage won’t go into effect until the day after Crown Jewel on October 22, meaning that the storytelling leading up to the pay-per-view show will be allowed to continue in Saudi Arabia undisturbed.
You can see the full results from the first night of 2021 WWE Draft in the list below. What show do you think had a better night? Let us know in the comments below!
1. Roman Reigns to SmackDown
“The Tribal Chief” was officially chosen as the first overall pick on the draft. Reigns has been a pillar of the SmackDown brand for several years and has held the WWE Universal Championship for over a year.
The Raw Women’s Ruling Champion was drafted to the Blue Brand with the third overall pick. “The Queen” has previously hosted the SmackDown Women’s Championship five times but has not held that title since 2019.
Instead of immediately drafting Becky Lynch to Raw to give the show an existing female champion, Red Brand decided instead to choose “The EST.” Belair will still challenge Lynch and Sasha Banks to a match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at crown jewel.
Riddle and Randy Orton will remain in Raw as Raw Tag Team Champions. Orton was reportedly not allowed to compete on Raw last week, but WWE has yet to confirm that “The Snake” has suffered any type of serious injury.
The fact that Rhea Ripley and Nikki ASH are the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions means they are free to move between brands regardless, but this choice means they will still be with Raw when they end up dropping the tag titles.
NXT’s first call-ups for the 2021 draft took place in the third round as the Hit Row faction of NXT – North American NXT Champion Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Top Dolla, Ashonte “Thee” Adonis, and B-FAB – were all selected for the blue brand. The group has been working together since May but quickly became one of NXT’s hottest acts.
Mysterios returns to Raw one year after being enlisted at SmackDown last year. The two became the first father-son duo to win a gold medal in the Tag Team Championship in WWE history earlier this year.
This technically represents Theory’s second call-up from NXT to Red Brand as he was previously shocked last year to begin collaborating with Angel Garza and Andrade. Once brought back down he became a member of The Way but has been absent from the group for the past few months.
“The Beast” has officially announced in a behind-the-scenes promo that, thanks to Paul Heyman, it will be drafted by either brand and remain a free agent for the next year. This infuriated Reigns, who demanded Heyman go to Raw and make sure The Usos stay on the SmackDown roster. He then tells Jimmy and J that if Heyman fails they should “leave him to die”.
