Two lives were claimed in a serious traffic accident on Autobahn 26 near Stade on Saturday afternoon. According to the police, an 87-year-old woman had made a wrong turn on the highway at the Stade-Süd interchange around 2.30 pm. When the wrong-way driver then changed lanes, her car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. The 87-year-old died on the spot, according to police, the driver of the other car, a 48-year-old man, died shortly afterwards at the scene of the accident. No other people were injured. Other cars were damaged by flying parts. The fire brigade was deployed with about 110 people and several ambulances and emergency doctors were on site. The Stade carriageway remained closed until the early evening hours. The accident site first had to be cleaned by a specialized company.
