Utah Jazz forward Rudy Gay will miss the start of the NBA season after having surgery on his left heel, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
Gay, 35, signed a three-year $18.6 million contract with the Jazz in August.
Starting his 14th NBA season, Gay spent the previous four in San Antonio, averaging 11.4 points and shooting 38.1 percent of the 3-point range for the Spurs in 2020-21. He averaged 16.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game throughout his career.
Jazz coach Quin Snyder confirmed that Gay had not yet been allowed to contact him, but he did do some exercises.
Gay had surgery for a ruptured left Achilles tendon in 2017, but there was no evidence that the injuries were related.
The Jazz begin preseason play Monday in San Antonio.
