‘King Kong’ MS Dhoni is best captain ever, says Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri has labeled MS Dhoni the greatest captain in the history of the game, praising his composure and level-headedness under pressure. Dhoni has been appointed as Team India’s Mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman, which starts next month.

MS Dhoni, who led India in the record 332 international matches, is widely hailed as one of the greatest games captains, especially in white ball cricket. Dhoni led India to a T20 World Cup title in 2007, a 50-over World Cup glory in 2011 and Champions Trophy win in 2013 – making him the only captain ever to achieve a rare triple of three different ICC titles.

India’s team head coach Ravi Shastri praised the 40-year-old, who also took India to the top of the Test rankings in 2009.

“Dhoni is the best captain ever. Just look at his record in ICC tournaments. What hasn’t he won? IPL, Champions League, all ICC tournaments, two World Cups. There is no one close to him when it comes to White-ball cricket. He’s got to be the best. ‘The King Kong’, you can call him that,” commented Shastri during a conversation with Fan Code.

Dhoni, the three-time IPL winning captain, has also woven his magic into the ongoing edition of the tournament, leading CSK to a play-off qualifier ahead of any other team with nine wins from their first 11 matches. He also had his moments with the bat, turning back years to finish the chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad with a towering goal in Sharjah.

“When you see Dhoni captain from one side, and you see Chennai Super Kings (CSK), you have that confidence and calm. The other side may hit me six or four, but you still get the feeling there’s this calmness and control,” added Shastri.

Last month, Dhoni was named as India’s mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman where he will lead the team alongside a coaching group led by Shastri.
