The Philadelphia 76ers have deposited 25 percent of the money owed to Australian security guard Ben Simmons under his contract — $8.25 million ($11.4 million) — in an escrow account in response to his tenacity, multiple media outlets reported Friday. (US time).
The Sixers say they will deduct any fines Simmons collects. Simmons did not sign the team up for training camp and requested a trade.
Under Simmons’ contract, he will receive two payments of $8.25 million before the season kicks off. He received the first payment on August 2.
The Sixers open their pre-season schedule Monday against the Raptors in Toronto. Should Simmons miss that match, he would reportedly be fined approximately $227,000 ($313,000). That amount would be deducted for each game he misses.
