Why does Erdogan hate the Gülen movement?
The Gülen movement is a splinter group of Islam, with schools and universities at the forefront.
▶ ︎It was founded in the early eighties by the Turkish pastor Fethullah Gülen (80). The Gülen movement and the Turkish ruling party AKP have long been partners of Recep Tayyip Erdogan (68).
In 2013, the Turkish president accused the Gülen movement of conducting a dirty campaign following corruption allegations. In 2016, Erdogan Gülen-Kader was responsible for a failed military coup and classified it as a terrorist group.
German security services such as the BND contradict Erdogan’s claims.
