Week 5 updates, highlights, biggest moments and more

Week 5 has arrived and we have a packed list of games.

There are two big matchups in the SEC with Arkansas playing in Georgia and Ole Miss traveling to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama. Elsewhere, Cincinnati visits Notre Dame, and Baylor-Oklahoma State actually seems to be a must-watch.

See all the results, reactions and revelry from around the country.

If Bama-Ole Miss is defined by quarterback play and explosions, Arkansas-Georgia will be defined by, as legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson so fondly called them, the great uglinesses. Both Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs and Sam Pittman’s Razorbacks master scrimmage with aplomb. And line play can be doubly important given both teams’ uncertainty in quarterback position.

The lead-up to this game, the first top-10 vs. top-10 battle since 2011 in Arkansas, has been dominated by rumors of quarterback injuries. Arkansas’s KJ Jefferson briefly left the Hogs’ rousing 20-10 win over Texas A&M last week with a knee injury and was clearly limited in practice this week. (Just like Treylon Burks, the big player.) JT Daniels of Georgia already missed a game with an oblique injury and now apparently has a crossbar problem. Read more from Bill Connelly’s Week 5 (ESPN+) preview.

It’s all fun and games…

SMU just has great marketing, that’s what we take away from this. Seize the moment, if you will.

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker is sure to enjoy the Spartans 4-0 heading into Week 5, and with MSU versus Western Kentucky, it looks like it’s going to be 5-0 quite easily (ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Spartans have an 89.2% chance of winning).

‘Bachelor’ takeover

Now we all know there’s a lot of crossover between college football and the Bachelor franchise. Oh, don’t you? A brief overview: Matt James, the most recent single, played soccer at Wake Forest. One of his teammates at Wake Forest was Tyler Cameron, who was in season 15 of “The Bachelorette.”

It was just announced this week that ESPN’s Jesse Palmer would be the next host of “The Bachelor.” Palmer was once the Bachelor in 2004, so it will be interesting to see what perspective he brings to the show’s 26th season.

Uniform updates

Ohio State has some new uniforms lined up for this weekend, and LeBron James is all over it.

Stanford is rocking a throwback look against Oregon.

And this is what the Ducks will wear against the Cardinal.

Miami and Virginia played on Thursday this week, and this touchdown from Brennan Armstrong to Dontayvion Wicks is quite spectacular. A little risky. But impressive nonetheless.

Brennan Armstrong throws an ill-advised pass in heavy traffic that is dropped by the defense and somehow ends up in the hands of Dontayvion Wicks for a 36-yard Virginia touchdown.
