If you’ve been following the latest NBA trade rumours, you probably know that Ben Simmons wants to change his environment because he plans to leave the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons’ camp has already cited multiple reasons for his decision, but they have now touched on the mental fatigue the three-time All-Star is reportedly suffering from.
According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Ben Simmons’ agent Rich Paul has cited mental exhaustion as another reason the Australian wants to trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. Pompey reported:
Paul said to them, “He tells you I am not coming to Philadelphia. My time as a 76er is over.’” The Sixers asked why Simmons wanted to leave, and Paul told them the guard was mentally exhausted. The source believes they paid no attention to Simmons’ state of mind or feelings about his stay in Philadelphia due to the four years left on his contract.
The Philadelphia 76ers and their disgruntled All-Star hope the tense situation will be resolved quickly without causing further distractions as they prepare for a huge season for both the player and the franchise.
NBA Trade Rumors: Will the Philadelphia 76ers do without Ben Simmons this season?
Given the chance, the Philadelphia 76ers are happy to welcome their disgruntled All-Star Ben Simmons back to the group with open arms, as he is a key figure in their rotation. Ben Simmons’ trading saga is getting uglier by the minute and doesn’t help either side get what they need but rather distracts from their job.
Despite Ben Simmons’ stock taking a hit after the 2020 playoffs, he is still a very valuable star who could play a huge role in helping Philly achieve their goals in a fraught Eastern Conference.
Both parties airing their dirty laundry in public have created a huge communication gap that relies on the constant back and forth in the media. That, in turn, has led to trust issues on both sides, despite face-to-face meetings and face-to-face conversations.
Simmons is a three-time All-Star who has the ability to be the anchor of a top 5 defense in the league. He is also a great facilitator who can find open eyes for his teammates with his amazing court vision.
Unfortunately, his relationship with his opponent Joel Embiid, coach Doc Rivers and the 76ers doesn’t seem likely to be fixed any time soon, leading to a huge deadlock that will depend on who blinks first. Embiid has said all the right things in the media about wanting Ben back, but had no qualms about venting his frustrations in a recent interview.
The Ben Simmons saga doesn’t look like it will be over any time soon as he is determined to find a new home regardless of the fact that his team would want him back.
